Twenty years ago a small group of individuals gathered at Odds to worship as gay and lesbian Christians. That was our first worship service, held on January 19, 1987. It was also in 1987 that we officially affiliated with the denomination of Metropolitan Community Churches. Rev. David Presley, our first pastor, arrived in February of that year from Ft. Worth with his partner Larry Boyd. The church occupied its first building at 1014 Wichita Street on Sept. 11, 1988. Rev. Presley remained as pastor until August of 1990, when he resigned due to his health.

Rev. Margaret Walker became our second pastor in September of 1990 and served until May 1997. She envisioned us in our own building, and on July 25, 1995 we purchased a church at 1407 26th Street. Rev. Margaret and her partner Monica Warn with with us for six years, and we were deeply blessed by their ministry to us and our community.

Our first full time pastor, Rev. Nancy Horvath, arrived in August of 1997 with her partner Barbara. She served with great dedication for six years before moving on to other areas of ministry in 2003.

In November of 2003, Rev. Ed Paul began an intentional interim pastorate, helping the church get ready for our next permanent pastor, Rev. Lea Brown. Rev. Brown began her ministry with us in November of 2005. During Rev. Paul's tenure as interim pastor, we lost our church building on 26th Street to an electrical fire. On March 26, 2006 our congregation voted overwhelmingly to purchase the property at 1401 Travis Street, which now serves as our church home.
